Yr 6 SATS: have you had results yet?

As this is the only thread I can see relating to year 6 SATS results I thought I'd add my story of results day. The class teacher gave the kids their school reports and sats results and then had a one-one with each child to talk about their results. When it was my son's turn she asked him to go through to the other room and on entering the room he heard his teacher whisper something to the rest of the class. He did not hear what was said other than he heard his name mentioned. He later asked some of his peers what his teacher had said which was for them not to talk to my son about his sats results because he had not done very well, particularly in literacy. ( He got a level 3 in literacy and was told in his 1-1 that he was one mark off getting a 4a in numeracy) The teacher used the same tactic on another pupil, telling the class that she had not even got a grade in one of the subjects. This girl was in tears at the time and my son welled up as he was telling me what had happened to him- needless to say I am livid.

I dont blame you Capricorn that is completely out of order. Are you going to be having a word with the teacher in question or the head?

Capricorn, that it awful, I don't blame you for being livid. Did they all leave the room for the 1 to 1 or just the other girl and your son?

Surely the teacher made it worse by announcing to the class not to ask these children about their results. I think you will be quite right to speak to the teacher/Head on Monday about this (if you haven't already, that is).

Just to say that each child in the class had a 1-1.

Due to being at work every day since this happened I have not yet had chance to speak to anyone at school although I need to, as this is not the first time she has humiliated my son in front of the class about his work. On the previous occasion I had an apology from the teacher and an assurance that it would not happen again.

Fortunately my son leaves that school on Wednesday and I am not at all sorry! There have been so many incidents that have been equally 'out of order' during the time that my 3 kids have been gone through that school that if I wrote them down here, it would take me at least until the end of the year to do so. The incidents range from a teacher pushing my daughter under the water in a swimming lesson to my son's personal health records being passed round the classroom - the list goes on and on. I don't suppose I would even know about any of these incidents if I did not have children that actually answer in detail the question of "how's school been today?"

This is an awful situation capricorn and shame on that teacher.

However, if your son was only one mark off getting a 4a in numeracy he has done well - a 4b is the national average for yr6 SATS.

Well done the Sparklette (and a rather belated well done to Mommacrab's lad as well!).

Capricorn, I would send a strong letter to the HT and the Chair of Governors, that teacher is completely out of order.
