More Motorway Toll Lanes Planned

http://uk.autoblog.com/2011/11/21/pay-as-you-go-rich-man-fast-lanes-plan...|uk|dl9|sec1_lnk3|86023

I did chuckle at the idea of them being called Lexus lanes, lol.

Would you pay to use these lanes?  We do a 230 mile trip most Friday evenings throughout the football season, and 230 miles back at some point over the weekend.  And yes, I would gladly pay if it meant we weren't sitting parked on various bits of the M25 and M1 for several 10/20 minute sessions.

I would hope though that if some people pay to use the toll roads, the existing roads would be less congested for drivers who opted not to pay.

Why ???? Don't we get penalised enough as it is without this. It won't ease congestion by the way it'll mean more cars on the road or no one will use it as the why the hell should I. Have the government forgotten we are in a bloody recession and this is just a scam to get more money from us Tory style.

Here where I live we have advisor signs saying 30/40/60 miles an hour and then 100yards a speed camera what the hell one or the other please then we have the M77 here that is now reduced to 50 and the 3 cameras that take an estimate of your speed now they have extended this to other roads. All for a quick quid in their coffers cos thats what it is. Quick money and now this but the thing is will it extend to Scotland as well cos I'm betting it will.

But you don't HAVE to use the toll roads, Dolly.  You can use whatever motorways you use at the moment without paying for the privilege.

I am guessing that a lot of the people who will use the new toll roads will be people who are driving as part of their job, such as salesmen. If they do, it will surely leave the existing roads less busy.

If we go to Manchester on the motorway we use the tollroad, it gets us past the worst of the congestion and makes the charge worth it.

The M6 toll has made a big difference to us driving from Glasgow to Portsmouth.

I used to drive to North Wales a lot, and always used the toll road. Well worth it IMO... its a long drive to North Wales from Essex especially with a preschooler as Alex was then.

As long as they don't toll existing roads, that these are NEW lanes.

That's what I like about the M6 Toll; no one is forced to use it as the non-toll M6 is still there but the choice is there.

I've only ever seen one toll road and that was on the way to Tamworth..M6 toll?    It was dead.

I like the idea actually - if people can afford or are daft enough to want to pay to use a particular road or lane then let them.   It leaves the rest of the lanes quieter for us and generates more money.   Hopefully to be spent on the roads mind.

Ursh on a Friday evening at rush hour the M6 toll is a Godsend, having been stuck for hours in the past it's great to be able to sail through

We tend to use the dublin tunnel a lot.  I know the dubliners complain about the cost of it, and with their road tax etc it is like another kick in the teeth but dublin traffic is nuts and Id happily pay to get through there quicker any day.
