The Chat Thread, in its current state, is closing. What I think we all have to (and indeed do)understand is that the two polarised opinions, the extremes, just aren't going to happen. These extremes are the chat thread being exactly as it is currently, just with a different name, versus the chat thread being shut and not existing at all.

What will hopefully happen is something new and in the middle of these extremes, and I'd echo Fredd in calling for positive contributions to that end.

I like the daily thing although I haven't cottoned on to it all; is it first one on in the morning decides on their title and its of?

Looks like we will be covering old ground though and yes it might cause an argument and I did read AuntyG's post ftr.

Seems to me that you are so right, we will be covering old ground, but I know my stance hasn't changed and nor has your's Dolly

Ok, but let's at least try and explore some ideas. I am interested in hearing constructive thoughts about the best way to run a chat thread.

Do we need a separate topic from the daily chats and why?
Isn't there a danger of setting up an area of the forum that's an exclusive club that no one else can join? What measures can you suggest to help make chat on the site open and inclusive for anyone who would like to take part?

I dont mind the daily scribbles either I have done one or two myself as they are fun, but I still want the chat thread to continue with my nonsense and ramblings. I am not alone in that. Fair enough the old is closing so whats wrong with another being the same. We abided by the rules of the forum too. I have been censored twice and it wasn't on the chat thread.

So we have a few options

1 have one weekly
2 have one monthly
3 have one that goes to 50,000 like the old one.
4 dont have one.

I like 3 myself

I don't understand why one "special" on-going chat thread is preferable to the daily chats. All the threads are open to everyone, we have a great cross-section of people posting in Chat, so what advantage is conferred by a single on-going thread that isn't present in the daily threads? We can still grumble, laugh, whinge, tell silly jokes and argue in the daily threads, so what's the main advantage of a long single thread compared to that?

See, I can see the need for a more 'evening', bar-type chat place, and I get that the daily chat might be TOO short and that a longer standing thread, weekly or even monthly, might provide better continuity, whilst not being too unwieldy.

It's like a daytime TV thing. Good fun, but a different vibe from the night time ones.

And I think things like the chat challenges etc should have seperate threads again so that people can all see and join in, whether they are bar (bike sheds! LMAO!!!!!) regulars or not.
