I am looking for things for Dan to wear as he is doing lessons on a horse called Will. The lass is doing them for free WOOHOO!!!! but he needs boots not wellys as the latter are awful. What of trousers and the such like and warm clothes too as it bloody freezing weather here.
I dont want to go the whole hog as that is really dear and he is only 13 and still growing eeekkkk!!!!!
So any shops online at basement prices would be great thanks.

dont know naff all about horsey stuff BUT the way to keep warm is a body stocking (modern thermals) which can be got from sports shops - they allow the skin to breath, but block the wind
Dd has been wearing a pair of joggers (but Santa has got her some jods) a pair of nylon tights underneath really helps (and no-one will know he is wearing them!.
Any shoes or boots with a solid sole and small heel should be ok.
A well fitting riding hat, is, of course, essential, and a body protector is advisable really, but they are expensive!
Tesco do a 'starter set' of riding hat, jodpurs and boots for £40 which is really good value (although the hat is lightweight). They also only cater for girls as the hat is bright pink!!
The main thing to spend money on is a hat. He really needs his own hat, preferably one fitted to his head by a trained person, and unfortunately for that you'll need to get to a tack shop. If you really can't get to a tack shop, Argos sell a hat that is kite-marked and is adjustable fit. There is a weird loophole with riding hat sizes - kids' hats come in adult sizes. My jockey skull cap cost £20 less than the adult version, and is identical to it, except that there is a cartoon horse on the lining.
Jogging bottoms are better than jeans. Jeans have seams in some VERY uncomfortable places, and when they get wet they chafe like h*ll. If he gets serious about his riding, a pair of jods is a good investment, but jogging bottoms are fine for now. Wearing tights under them is a really good idea - its what jockeys do, and as an added bonus, tights hold all the "boy bits" in, as it can really hurt when men are learning to trot !!!!! On that note, he might prefer to wear pants rather than boxers as well.
The only problem he might find with jogging bottoms is that because they are loose on his legs, the stirrup leathers might rub his calves. If this becomes a problem, he might find a pair of half-chaps or gaiters useful. These are just bits of leather or fabric that wrap round your calves and stop you getting chafed.
One of the very best online places is Equestrian Clearance. I've bought quite a bit of stuff from them, and they are reliable and deliver quickly.
Inexpensive joddy boots;

They also sell hats and jods, have a poke around and see what looks good.
You'll have to keep us posted on how he does with his lessons - i am very excited for him! What is Will like???
Oh look, an essay....!
Have a look here Dolly it's ten minutes away from us and they are great.

They have a lot of bargains too which might help.
Good Luck with the shopping - I think boot wise as long as it's sturdy and has a heel you would be ok whilst you see if he really likes it but BFG knows more than me .
He has a hat as that was the first thing L bought him the bugger she is as it cost £40 eeekkkk at least its his Christmas pressie from her as he mucks out her horses with her. Has done since we moved into the farm. Anything horsey and he'll do it bless even the manky jobs. We have seen boots and he is now a size 9 and he is still growing. Oh my thats scary aint it.
Off for a gander at thoughs sites as well. Oh below is them both.

BFG your allowed hen as you love horses.
In fact Dan would be classed as a young adult in clothing but is very skinny like a bean pole, tall as well from looking at him actually on Will.
BFG I will keep you posted hen about how he is doing. At the mo he is loving it. Which is good for him.
Janey we seen the stuff in Tesco just its a pity it is pink as that would of been ideal as a starter kit for him.
Had a wee gander and the things on there are not too dear either. He'd live in jodhpurs if I let him LOL!!!!! So I think a few pair of them should do and there is no way he will wear tights gals sorry. thermals though he would as in long johns and vest. Boots look ok price wise at the mo I think he is wearing a pair of her hubbys that fit him. Even if he gets bored which I cant see. The rider stuff will sell pretty quickly. He has his own grooming kit too we bought ages ago so he didnt have to keep asking L for her's and she was touched that he got his own. I find round here that the lessons are expensive and thats with no kit thrown in. So he gets to muck and tack up and gets the lessons free also its on the doorstep so no travelling for Dan.
We even got him his potholing light too so he can see in the dark going to L's and the motorists can see him. Might make the bugger that nearly ran him over think twice. I had to have words as he was from the next farm as he has kids of his own. I contacted the council for signs saying kids walking here and horseriders they are as usual looking into it.
Oh my thats is an essay too, your fault BFG LOL!!!!!!! as I get passionate about my lad enjoying something bless.
How exciting!
There are horsey 'car boot' sales offered - but you have to hunt the leaflets in tack shops. We have a yellow 'ad trader' locally that offers LOADS of second hand gear - often gear that is nearly new is in there for very little money - and on freeserve. Advertise as 'wanted' if necessary - I know I've got about four pairs of jod boots kicking about here that no one wears or are grown out of, but none in size 9!
All tack shops will also have a 'bargain basement' section - with some REALLY good deals in it.
He needs either knee high boots, or short boots and gaiters. The minute you start doing it right the stirrup leathers 'nip' your calf on every step - and it HURTS.
My SS has 'WW (I think it's woofwear) boots - hang on, I'll google;

the second picture is better - anyway, he LOVES them, can ride them to bring the horses in, muck out, then jump on board to ride in. And they have worn brilliantly! I think my youngest has got through about 3 pairs of wellies in the same time and that's without riding boots.
My kids both wear jogging bottoms, very rare jods - although they have them, but they are both lazy, in fact if they are hacking out they wear jeans and my youngest often rides in the Summer in shorts (truly! But she shouldn't) However whatever they wear that isn't designed for the job gets wrecked in short order. Again, trawl ebay, shops, ad trader - there are lots of things out there.
For one lot of boots I went to the tack shop and fitted them, then bought them online (naughty I know).
Layers are great - Matalan has lovely lovely thermals for £5 and £7 each.
The other thing they need at the moment is gloves. Mine used to wear sailing gloves (we had them) because they have a 'grippy' palm (for the ropes) the same as riding gloves, now we've managed to stop Tom 'nodding' they just grab what's nearest, but wool does soak up the water and get very cold.
And I'm thrilled for him. It's a great great hobby - but expensive!
Oh, and waterproof trousers and jackets keep the wind out and the warmth in - a factory shop near us has cheap ones........ AND you can get reflective vests at QD nearby for £1.00 for being out with the horse in this weather. Very vital I think.
Ooh, yes, he MUST have hi-viz stuff if he is going to ride or lead on the roads. My hi-viz tabard came from IKEA and cost £2, our local market sells hi-viz jackets that cost a tenner. Do not buy horsey-brand hi-viz, it costs a bomb!!
OO lovely on top of this you get to take C to Ikea - hotdog anyone ? lol
Dolly he looks great sat up there.
