Is a piece I'm putting together at the moment - any tips to share about achieving the home-baked taste, smell and sense of achievement while cutting as many corners as possible?

The two sweetest words in the history of lazy baking; Jus-Rol. Home-made pies, where you get all the fun of concocting the filling, without having to stress over making the pastry.

LOL.

Make double and freeze = a huge pan of stew say and when it's defrosted the second one can be topped with a piece of jus roll.

Agree with Beth part baked bread or a bread machine, less work than hand made.

Warming mince pies up in the oven - you get the aroma and no cooking mess.

Pick your recipes carefully - make muffins, that all go in one bowl and can't go wrong, or scones, that mix up in minutes, rather than anything fancy.

Make crumbles rather then pies, top savoury pies with mashed potato or crushed crisps rather than pastry.

keep it simple, I have a few basic recipes which I just add/vary as required.

I did biscuits with the Beavers tonight, very simple, they like the rolling out and cutting, and it was all done in 1/2 hour, bar the washing up

Make a big batch of cupcakes with buttercream topping and freeze some for another day, they freeze really well even with the topping on and defrost in about 10 minutes.

Or, make fridge cakes, really easy and cheap to do! No cooking required!!
