I understand his view on they have worked all their lives and they are entilted, but after winning £10.2 million, would you really still need to claim? What do you think?

(Have I missed the In the news thread? Can someone move this if I have xx)

He won the lottery 6 years ago and didn't stop claiming this benefit (which he was entitled to as he declared the lottery win and did everything legitimately) 6 years ago, and was entitled to it 6 years ago because it's not means tested.

But the Journalists suddenly picked up on it 6 years later, just when the government is doing a witch hunt on people who claim disability benefits.  Let me guess, someone in the government is going to suggest that it's means tested now....

To answer your question, this man probably doesn't need the extra money, but I just smell a big fat rat when journalists dig up 6 year old stories.  And even though he probably doesn't need the extra cash, I think that if the current government are the ones that decide how the means testing is going to be done, then lots of people who do need the money will end up losing out and suffering as a result of it.

I think it's a case of trying to 'shame' the claimant into 'giving up' the claim, just like Umm says.
However, as a DLA claimant myself, I know that if I was in the same position I would return the money or if that wasn't posible I'd give it to a disability charity to enable them to help some who needs help. To me it may be legal, but is it ethical to carry on claiming?

Yes he is entitled to the money but morally he shouldn't claim the money or the new car they get every 3 years.

The bit that gets me is they have built this house in Ireland but won't live there because in Ireland they do have means tested for DLA so for £6K a year they haven't to the freedom to live where they want to.

For fuck sake its a non story and I'll bet they didnt even say any of the stuff that is in the papers. I'll bet they are moving there or have and are not even claiming anymore or they changed their minds about Ireland and stayed here and the papers have jumped on it why you ask cos they dont need it cos of the lotto win and they are easy prey for them cos of the so called scroungers that are on DLA yeah right.

Also do you know how hard it is to return government money that you are entitled to. They wont touch it seriously they wont.
