Sales of Michael Morpurgo's novel War Horse have seen a dramatic rise since the release of Steven Spielberg's Oscar-nominated film version of the story.
It has sold more copies in the UK in a fortnight, than it did worldwide in the 25 years after it was first published.

Anything that encourages people to read a book is good, I guess. Are adults reading it or children, I wonder? I bought it last year (so before the film!) and read it to see if it was suitable for my dd. She's 10, but sensitive, lol. I found parts of it quite emotional and she decided she didn't want to read it just yet.
My 11 year old loves Michael Morpurgo's books and my 8 year old is now getting into them. When I told the 11 year old about this story she said it was a wonderful story but she could understand why the film has been rated as a 12.
I have seen it at a London theatre, but not yet read the book or seen the film! I love MM as an author though, and have read lots of his books. There are a lot for younger readers too.
The audio CD of the book is listed as a 10+.
It is Abbies birthday in 2 weeks and she wants to go to the pictures to see this so yesterday i ordered her the book from Amazon as a present. She loves Michael Murpurgo.
I got ES the book for christmas along with another two. Private Peaceful ( which he read at school and couldn't stop talking about it) and The Elephant in the Garden. He saw the stage production oif Warhorse with the school last year so I wanted him to read the book. I have read the book too.
M read the book at book club and then went to the cinema to see the film, she cried both times
The film has some fairly nasty bits in it - they get gassed in the trenches, and the horse runs into barbed wire quite graphically - I think it is a 12a.
I read the book first, and thought the film was pants.
The scene where the horse runs through the wire in no man's land was horrible and so was the first war scene. Agree definately 12A
He was on the one show the other week and said he didn't understand the sudden interest in the book a few years ago (considering it was wrote ages and ages ago). IMO it was because some of his books ended up being studied at school.
Definitely Brandie. Abbie read one of his books through school and really got into him and has read loads since.
