Today I've received a letter from the police via MS's school, there have been 2 attempted abductions in the local area since Friday. Both incidents involved a man and a woman and happened just as the light was fading.
I felt very sick, esp when I mentioned this to hubby and a colleague of his, when I was collecting him from work. Turns out the first 'victim' was the colleague's 12 year old sister on her way home from school. She bit the man taking a chunk out of his arm, so police are hopeful that they may get DNA.
The girl is absolutely distraught as you can imagine

The police advice is very to the point, stay in groups, if you end up alone and are approached scream at the top of your voice

When they do self protection at Taekwondo they teach the children to shout 'stranger' as it alerts people to what is going on imediately. People don't react to children screaming as they do it all the time. But stranger says it all!

ED was taught this at school too, Enterprise. They were told to shout I don't know you stranger. Fab advice.

(though the first time she does it to me in ASDA I will kill her!!)

Very worrying indeed - and its as well for everyone to be vigilant and to pass safety information onto their children, as if these scum know that the police are onto them, they will simply move onto another area.

Stranger abductions like this are VERY VERY rare, but that doesnt mean we shouldn't teach our children a bit of common sense when it coems to dealing with strangers and people in cars.

Incidentally, has anyone seen the episode of "Outnumbered" where the dad is trying to drag his 9 year old out of the farm gift shop, and the horrible child starts yelling "stranger! stranger" and "my name's not Ben!".

Thanks J

This happened near DDs school last year, mine aren't old enough to go back and forth unaccompanied yet but it is still worrying.

BFG - I'd have left him there if he was my son (and not fictional)

Thanks for the warning Jacqui. So pleased she got away, poor thing must be so distressed.
We had a letter via Parentmail this morning notifying us of the attempted abduction. Hope they get caught. If you hear any more on this please would you let me know? Our info was very basic compared to what you know.
Thanks xx
