The upcoming 11+ entrance tests are bound to be playing on yours and your child's mind during this time of uncertainty. To help prepare you, here is a region-by-region guide to any test date changes for autumn 2020.

There are around 160 grammar schools in England and Northern Ireland, covering 24 separate regions. Changes to the 11+ test date as a result of the current pandemic vary from one area to the next. 

Although some schools may not have announced date changes, with the current unpredictable climate, it is essential to get in touch with your individual school for the most up-to-date information and advice

11+ test changes in 2020: Berkshire

Some of the grammar schools in the Bershire and Slough area fall under the Slough Consortium, which has announced that the test will take place in the week beginning Monday 12 October 2020. 

Kendrick School and the Reading School for Boys and Reading School for Girls do not appear to have announced any date changes. 

11+ test changes in 2020: Bexley

The Bexley government website has announced that the four Bexley grammar schools will be postponing the selective test dates from the 15 and 16 September to the week commencing 2 November 2020.

11+ test changes in 2020: Birmingham

Changes to the 11+ testing dates for Birmingham grammar schools have not been announced but the schools may need to be contacted directly for confirmation or further updates. 

11+ test changes in 2020: Bromley

There are two super-selective schools in Bromley.

St Olave’s Grammar School has announced ammendments to the tests which will now occur on 26 November, 27 November and 5 January.

Newstead Wood appears to be going ahead with the orginal September test dates.

11+ test changes in 2020: Buckinghamshire

Buckinghamshire grammar schools have announced that the 27-30 October will be the new test date for out of county children, and the 2-5 November for children attending Buckinghamshire primary schools and partner schools. 

11+ test changes in 2020: Devon

There are seven exclusively grammar schools in Devon, and three Local Authorities involved in admissions.

Churston Ferrers Grammar School has stated that: "Subject to DfE confirmation, we are provisionally planning to hold the test on Saturday 17 October with the day divided into two testing sessions – morning and afternoon – with each child attending just one of the sessions." 

The Spires College's registration deadline is midday on Wednesday 9 September 2020. The provisional date they have provided for the 11+ test is Saturday 17 October but may be adjusted.

Torquay Boys' Grammar School have provided a provisional test date of Saturday 17 October and the day will be divided into two testing sessions with each child attending just one of the sessions. 

Torquay Girls' Grammar School have provided the same date, 17 October, and have also said there will be a further test date on 3 November for anyone who was unable to attend due to illness. 

11+ test changes in 2020: Dorset

Grammar schools in Dorset have not yet announced a change of date on their websites so keep an eye out or contact your school directly to confirm. 

11+ test changes in 2020: Essex

Most of the 13 grammar schools in Essex are part of the Consortium of Selective Schools in Essex which does not appear to have changed testing arrangements for 2020.

Chelmsford County Highschool for Girls is awaiting guidance from the DfE before it confirms plans, but the earliest provisional date for the CCHS Entrance Test will be during the week commencing Monday 28 September 2020.

The Consortium of Selective Schools in Essex (which covers 11 grammar schools) has not yet declared a new date and are preparing as usual, but they are still considering DofE recommendations. 

11+ test changes in 2020: Essex – Redbridge

Redbridge government website has announced that: 'In light of the COVID-19 situation, we cannot confirm when the Redbridge 11 plus selection tests will take place. You will appreciate that it is our priority to follow Government guidance and ensure your children and school staff are kept safe.'
Watch out for any updates and contact the school if necessary.  

11+ test changes in 2020: Gloucestershire

Grammar schools in this area have confirmed that the test date has changed. Gloucestershire grammar schools have decided to hold the Entrance Test on Saturday 17 October 2020, rather than on Saturday 12 September.

11+ test changes in 2020: Hertfordshire – SW Herts

South West Herts Consortium have published the message that they will be meeting shortly to agree upon dates "suitable to all schools and their prior scheduled commitments."

They are currenlty considering either October, before half term, or November. 

11+ test changes in 2020: Barnet and Enfield (Hertfordshire)

There are four grammar schools in Barnet and one in Enfield.

Henrietta Barnett School will hold their first entrance test over three days from Wednesday 30 September to Friday 2 October. The second part of the Entrance Test, for those ranked in the top 300 after the first round, will take place in early November 2020. 

Mill Hill County High School and Queen Elizabeth's School have not announced date changes yet. 

St Michael's Catholic Grammar School test is now on Friday 18 September. 

The Latymer School has postponed assessment tests until October 2020. 

11+ test changes in 2020: Kent

Schools that use the Kent 11+ Test have moved the date to Thursday 15 October for pupils who attend a Kent school and from Saturday 17 October for all other students. Kent parents will also be offered two additional preferences on their child’s secondary school application this year, an increase from four to six, to account for the later release of Kent Test results.

The Shepway test date (used by The Folkestone School for Girls, alongside the Harvey Boys Grammar School) is still being considered in line with the confirmed date for the Kent Test. 

11+ test changes in 2020: Lancashire and Cumbria

There are no updates at the moment for Queen Elizabeth School, Cumbria's only grammar school

Information about Lancashire's grammar schools: Bacup and Rwtenstall Grammar School's exam will take place on Saturday 12 September, but they advise checking the website regularly for updates and changes.  

The grammar schools in the CRGS consortium (Lancaster Girls’ Grammar School, Lancaster Royal Grammar School, Clitheroe Royal Grammar School) have taken the decision to move the date of the Entrance Examination from 26 September to Saturday 17 October 2020. 

11+ test changes in 2020: Lincolnshire

Lincolnshire Consortium of Grammar Schools has moved the tests by a week to the weekends of 18-19 September and 25-26 September. 

Caistor Grammar School has also re-arranged the entrance tests to take place on Saturday 3 October and Saturday 10 October.

11+ test changes in 2020: Medway

It has been announced that the Medway 11+ test will be pushed back until October. The exact date in October may vary depending on the school so it's best to check with them directly. 

11+ test changes in 2020: Northern Ireland

Test dates for grammar schools within Northern Ireland's AQE consortium will now fall on 21 and 28 November, with the final paper on 12 December 2020. 

The Entrance Assessment date for grammar schools that are part of the Post Primary Transfer Consortium (PPTC) in Northern Ireland will be Saturday 5 December 2020. 

11+ test changes in 2020: Surrey

The Surrey 11+ test changes for 2020 are as follows.

Tiffin School (Boys) and Tiffin Girls' School are currently going ahead with tests scheduled as usual but they will be updating their information when decisions have been taken in line with ongoing government advice and guidance.

Nonsuch High School for Girls' Selective Eligibility Test is postponed but they have not yet confirmed a new date. They are hoping to hold tests in November but will confirm at the beginning of the autumn term. 

There is no announcement for Sutton Grammar School for Boys but this may change and should be monitored for updates. 

The Wallington County Grammar School (Boys) has decided to cancel all of its 2020 familiarisation tests. It has no involvement in the Selective Eligibility Test and  has no information on the status of that test.

The Wallington High School for Girls has postponed the Selective Eligibility Test for 2021 entry and hasn't confirmed a new date for the Selective Eligibility Test yet. 

Wilson’s School (Boys) and Greenshaw High School have also postponed this year's test. Its intention is for it to take place in November and this will be confirmed at the beginning of the autumn term

Greenshaw High School test is postponed but a new date has not been announced.

11+ test changes in 2020: Trafford

The Trafford Grammar Schools CEM Consortium (TGSCC) test date has been changed to 19 October 2020. 

Altrincham Grammar School for Boys' examination will now take place on Saturday 10th October. 

Loreto Grammar School and St Ambrose College tests have been re-scheduled to take place on Friday 16 October 2020.

11+ test changes in 2020: Warwickshire

The Warwickshire grammar schools are currently looking at contingency measures regarding 11+ testing sessions. 

It's best to keep in touch and regularly look for updates as they will be announcing more details soon. 

11+ test changes in 2020: Wiltshire

There are two selective grammar schools in Wiltshire.

Bishop Wordsworth School for Boys has confirmed that the 11+ examination will provisionally take place on Saturday 17 October 2020.

South Wilts Grammar School for Girls has no update as of yet. 

11+ test changes in 2020: Wirral and Liverpool

Liverpool and the Wirral 11+ testing arrangements for 2020 are as follows.

The Wirral government website has stated that the selective assessments for non-Catholic grammar schools are expected to be moved from September 2020 to October 2020. It also says that "once the arrangements have been finalised, parents of registered candidates will receive an email with their child's test date, venue and the arrangements for the assessments." 

So far, King David High School, St Margaret's C of E Academy, St Hilda's C of E High School, and the Blue Coat School do not appear to have announced any date changes.

St Anselm’s College's examination will take place in October 2020.

Upton Hall is currently reviewing government guidance and will further communicate its updated arrangements. 

11+ test changes in 2020: Wolverhampton and Wrekin

Shropshire, Walsall and Wolverhampton are joined together in a consortium and have proposed delaying the entrance test to a date in October. They are also reopening the application portal and this will now close on 10 September 2020.

11+ test changes in 2020: Yorkshire Calderdale

Crossley Heath Grammar School exam will take place on Saturday 26 September 2020 – subject to a return to normality following the coronavirus lockdown. They have advised checking the website regularly for updated information.

There is no update for the North Halifax Grammar School at this time.

11+ test changes in 2020: Yorkshire

The Yorkshire grammar school testing arrangements for 2020 are:

Heckmondwike's exam is scheduled to take place in the week beginning 19 October 2020. More details about this will be confirmed in early September.

Ermysted's Grammar School has decided that testing will be held no earlier than mid October 2020. 

Ripon Grammar School doesn't appear to have changed its dates at this time. 

Skipton Girls’ High School have published the statement that all four grammar schools in the consortium will delay the entrance exam to Saturday October 17 2020.
