Important update from TheSchoolRun
For the past 13 years, TheSchoolRun has been run by a small team of mums working from home, dedicated to providing quality educational resources to primary school parents. Unfortunately, rising supplier costs and falling revenue have made it impossible for us to continue operating, and we’ve had to make the difficult decision to close. The good news: We’ve arranged for another educational provider to take over many of our resources. These will be hosted on a new portal, where the content will be updated and expanded to support your child’s learning.
What this means for subscribers:
- Your subscription is still active, and for now, you can keep using the website as normal — just log in with your usual details to access all our articles and resources*.
- In a few months, all resources will move to the new portal. You’ll continue to have access there until your subscription ends. We’ll send you full details nearer the time.
- As a thank you for your support, we’ll also be sending you 16 primary school eBooks (worth £108.84) to download and keep.
A few changes to be aware of:
- The Learning Journey weekly email has ended, but your child’s plan will still be updated on your dashboard each Monday. Just log in to see the recommended worksheets.
- The 11+ weekly emails have now ended. We sent you all the remaining emails in the series at the end of March — please check your inbox (and spam folder) if you haven’t seen them. You can also follow the full programme here: 11+ Learning Journey.

Calculating volume
Volume is the amount of 3D space that an object occupies. Volume can be measured in cubes. Calculate the number of cubes in each shape to work out the volume.
Estimate volume
Look at these containers. Which do you think has the greatest volume? (Think about their real-life size by considering what is inside.) Put them in order from smallest to largest volume. Estimate the volume in cm3, then calculate the volume to see how accurate you were.

We use scale factor to talk about the numbers a shape has been multiplied by to make a new shape in proportion with the original. Can you answer these scale factor questions?

We use scale factor when we talk about increasing the size of a 2D shape. The size by which we make the shape larger is described by its scale factor. Can you solve these scale factor problems?
Year 3 place value quiz
Ask your child to cut out the number cards below while you cut out the question card. Your child then needs to lay out all the number cards on a table, face up. Call out each question. Your child needs to find the number card that has the answer on it. If they get it right, they turn the card over. Continue until all the cards have been turned over.

Y3 place value grids
Cut out the Questions and answers card below (try not to let your child see it). Give your child the Place value grid. Call out each question. Your child needs to write the digits in the correct places in the grid and work out the correct number. Ask them to say it out loud once they have done this.
Understanding place value
Cut out the following cards. For each orange number, there is a purple number that is one more. See if you can match up the pairs. Then mix all the numbers up. Can you put them back into their pairs and then organise them into their four groups (1 more, 10 more, 100 more and 1000 more)?

Either write down or call out various two-digit numbers and ask your child to make them with their arrow cards, lining up the arrows so that the number 43, for example, is made up of the 40 card and 3 card together.
