Heart rate mix and match
When we exercise the muscles and organs in our body need more oxygen and energy. Our heart therefore has to work much harder. Look at these pictures of different activities. Can you cut out the pictures and the heart rate cards and match up each activity with the heart rate you think is correct?
Habitat adaptation
Plants, just like animals, are able to adapt to their environment – they have to do this to survive. Sometimes this is a short-term change; they can also evolve to change permanently. This investigation looks at how plants adapt to meet their need for light.
Fatty foods investigation
Ask an adult to help you select different foods that you think may contain more fat than others. Carefully rub each food in turn in one of the circles. Label each circle so that you can see which food was in which circle. Leave the paper to dry. When dry hold it up to the light. You should be able to see which foods contained more oil and fat as this will be left on the paper!

Using semi-colons in lists
We use semi-colons in a list when the items in the list are described by phrases. Can you correctly place the semi-colons in these lists?
Semi-colon or comma?
We can use a semi-colon to separate two clauses if they are in some way related to each other and if both clauses could make sense on their own. If one part of the sentence doesn’t make sense on its own, use a comma. Tick and cross these sentences to show if the correct punctuation has been used.
Recognise equivalent proportions
If the equivalence is correct, use the “correct” letter in the riddle below; if it is incorrect use the “incorrect” letter.
Ratio investigation
Cut out your red circles (these will act as counters). One side is red, the other side is white. How many different ratios can you show with these counters? Now flip the counters to find more ratios. When you’ve finished… How many did you find?
Proportion dominoes

Estimate the price game
This is a game for 2 to 4 players. The aim of the game is to correctly estimate the correct price of an item. The game host holds all the item cards. Players are assigned an item and take it in turns to guess the price. The person closest to the correct answer ‘wins’ that item and is given the card. The first person with 3 cards wins!

Calculating discounts
Play this quick calculation game with a partner. Take it in turns to turn over an item card and a percentage card. Work out how much money you are saving on each item by calculating the discount percentage. After three rounds, the person who has saved the most money wins.
